Most Race Report

Coming into Most I was confident that I could be competitive, having raced there last year, but still aware that we needed to improve in a lot of areas!

FP - P15 I felt decent in practice, and as I already knew the track we started well, but I reached a ceiling with the bike and struggled to find much more time. I came in after my first stint to try and find a direction, and the changes we made felt good but wasn’t quite giving me the feeling I wanted.

QP - P12 I got out at the front with a small group at the start of qualifying, managing to put in a good lap with an almost perfect slipstream all the way around! The changes we made to the bike made it slightly harder to ride but I was happy enough that I could put a lap together on it. After a quick stop in pit lane, we got me out in the main group, which worked really well and I put in a few decent laps to put me just inside the top 10! Towards the end of the session I couldn’t find the track position to get a better lap, just being pipped by a couple others to drop to P12. I was still fairly happy, as it was my best qualifying in the class, and put me in a better position for the races.

Race 1 - P14 Rain was in the air throughout race day, and it was hard to get an understanding of the grip levels with only a warm up lap. I didn’t get a great start, and didn’t do as well as I should of in the first couple of laps meaning I lost the front group. I eventually found my feet and scrapped hard to stay the best of the rest, but I’m disappointed in myself for not being fast enough at the start of the race.

Race 2 - P14 I got a decent start to the second race, but got pushed right to the inside on the run to turn 1, compromising my drive out and just losing touch slightly. The rider in front of me had good pace in the first race, so I was hoping that they would keep me with the front group, but the pace had been pushed and we were being left behind! I overtook and tried to get back at the group but didn’t have the pace to close the gap, so once again had to scrap hard to stay at the front of the group. I did everything perfectly but missed a gear out of the last corner on the last lap and got beaten to the line by 0.007! Again I was disappointed that I didn’t have the pace as P14 isn’t where we should be.

Overall a mixed weekend from Most, after our best qualifying and some frustrating races, but we have one last bite at Magny-Cours in September so I will give it everything to end the season well!
